Powertrain and Performance

The DAF CF440 is defined by its PACCAR MX-11 10.8L inline-six engine, producing 320 kW (440 hp) and 2,100 Nm of torque available between 1,000–1,450 rpm. Key technical features include double overhead camshafts, high-pressure common rail injection (up to 2,500 bar), and a VGT turbocharger. Constructed with a compact graphite iron block and head, the MX-11 prioritizes durability while maintaining a significant weight saving—approximately 180 kg lighter than the MX-13, optimizing payload potential. From 2017, CF440 models incorporated further efficiency gains through down-speeded drivelines, revised turbocharging, advanced EGR, and a new valve actuation system. The transition from ZF AS Tronic to ZF TraXon automated transmission provided faster shift cycles, reduced friction, and intelligent integration with GPS-based Predictive Cruise Control and enhanced EcoRoll.

Chassis, Suspension, and Variants

The CF440's modular chassis platform supports a variety of setups: FT 4x2 and FTG 6x2 tractor units, FA 4x2, FAS 6x2, FAT 6x4, and FAD 8x4 rigids. Specialist configurations like FAQ 8x2 tridem (with three steered axles) deliver high payload and maneuverability for urban or rural operations. The chassis enables up to 1,500L fuel tank capacity, benefiting from bodybuilder-friendly space due to compact EAS introduced in 2017. Stabilink rear suspension, integrating the anti-roll bar function, improves stability and reduces weight.

Cab Options and Interior Design

Cab choices include Day Cab (compact for urban use), Sleeper Cab (with full bunk and underbunk storage), and the Space Cab (2.23 m standing height, 11 m³ volume, up to 900L storage). The 2013 redesign brought a new dashboard with a 5” TFT display and the DAF Driver Performance Assistant, ergonomic switchgear, and a multifunction steering wheel. Premium options include full LED headlamps and high-capacity refrigeration for extended regional operation comfort.
