Engine and Driveline
The DAF XF 510 features the PACCAR MX-13 12.9L inline-six, constructed with Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) for strength and weight efficiency. The Euro 5 version (XF 105.510) produces 510 hp and 2,500 Nm, offering a broad, flat torque band between 1,000–1,410 rpm. The Euro 6 XF 510 introduced high-pressure common rail injection (up to 2,500 bar) and a VGT, supporting stringent emission standards. “Pure Excellence” (2017+) models adopted a Multi-Torque strategy, providing up to 530 hp and 2,700 Nm in top gear from 900 rpm, paired with improved thermal management and an enhanced MX Engine Brake. Gearbox options include the ZF AS-Tronic (12/16-speed) manual or fully automated, and, from Euro 6 onwards, the ZF TraXon with EcoRoll and Predictive Cruise Control (PCC).
Chassis, Axles, and Aerodynamics
The XF 510 is available in 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, and 8x4 configurations. The Euro 6 generation introduced a lighter, stiffer chassis layout, facilitating larger fuel capacities (up to 1,500L). Innovations included the Stabilink rear suspension and optimized packaging for improved payload. The New Generation XF (2021+) further refines axle efficiency, using Active Caliper Release and optimized rear axles to minimize rolling resistance. Aerodynamics advanced significantly with a reshaped cab—16 cm longer, a curved windscreen, closed wheel bay covers, and integrated air fenders—yielding up to 10% fuel savings over previous XF models.
Cab and Interior Technology
Cab options span Space Cab and Super Space Cab, with up to 2,100 mm standing height and high-end materials. The New Generation XF’s cab features a 33% larger windscreen, digital instrument cluster (12" main, optional 10" touchscreen), and the DAF Digital Vision System, which replaces side mirrors with retractable cameras. Optional amenities include a large fridge, leather-trimmed seats, premium mattress, and advanced climate systems, underlining the driver-centric layout. Service intervals reach up to 200,000 km, supported by modular design and encapsulated wiring.
Special Editions and Options
Notable variants include the 90th Anniversary Edition (530 hp, exclusive colors, full leather, and enhanced interior), Super Space Cab Celebration Edition with cognac leather and premium comfort mattress, and the XF Unity Edition, characterized by market-specific livery and comprehensive operator packages.
