Used MAN TGS 26.400 Specifications Overview
Powertrain and Engine Evolution
MAN TGS 26.400 is distinguished by its 400 hp power class, with significant changes in engine architecture over its lifecycle. Early models (2010–2019) featured the 10.5L D2066 inline-six engine (120 x 155 mm bore/stroke, 4-valve head, CR injection), with Euro 5 and later Euro 6 versions integrating EGR, SCR, and CRT DPF for emissions compliance. In 2019, the TGS 26.400 adopted the 9.0L D1556 engine (115 x 145 mm bore/stroke) delivering 400 hp and 1,800 Nm from 1,000–1,500 rpm, introducing an SCR-only aftertreatment and a lighter block.
Transmission and Driveline Technologies
Transmission options evolved from manual 16-speed units to predominantly AMT systems. Early trucks used TipMatic 2 (ZF AS Tronic), while post-2016 models adopted the TipMatic TX (ZF TraXon) 12-speed, providing expanded gear spreads (16.69–1.0), rapid actuation, and features like IdleSpeed Driving and SmartShifting. Off-Road Mode (exclusive to 6x4 variants) optimizes shift patterns for unsealed surfaces. MAN HydroDrive® offers hydrostatic AWD capability on 6x4H/6x2H chassis, adding temporary traction with minimal weight penalty—up to 750 kg lighter than full mechanical AWD setups.
Chassis Configurations and Frame Design
TGS 26.400 can be specified in 6x4 for construction (durable planetary hub reduction axles, parabolic steel springs) or 6x2 for distribution (air suspension, steered tag axle). The fully flat frame profile enables efficient body mounting. Steerable rear axles in 6x2-4 variants significantly improve maneuverability in urban operations, approaching that of smaller vehicles.
Cab Ergonomics and Interior Features
The model uses a 2,240 mm wide cab with a 280 mm engine tunnel, offering a low ingress height to minimize driver fatigue in repetitive stop-start tasks. The 2016 interior revision introduced upgraded "Warm Sand/Graphite" materials and the MAN Media Truck Advanced system with a 7-inch touchscreen. Post-2020 models feature digital instrumentation and streamlined controls, optimizing visibility and usability for multi-purpose operations.
