The engine adopts a SCR-heavy aftertreatment approach for improved fuel efficiency and meets the latest Euro 6e standards. Matched to the engine is the MAN TipMatic 12-speed AMT (ZF TraXon-based), available in direct or overdrive configurations. The transmission integrates application-specific software modes: Idle Speed Driving, Rock-Free Mode for off-road extraction, EfficientRoll/EfficientCruise for downhill coasting, and Performance Mode with optimized speed-shifting under high load. Turbo EVBec exhaust valve braking delivers up to 630 kW continuous brake power.
Chassis, Axles, and Suspension
Engineered for a technically permissible mass of 35 t, the TGX 35.580 is constructed on a ladder frame of S500MC-grade steel, with duty-specific rail thicknesses from 8.0 to 9.5 mm and pre-drilled hole-patterns for body customization. Available as standard 8x4 (dual steer, dual drive) or 8x4-4 Tridem (steer-drive-steer) for minimized turning radius and enhanced urban/off-road maneuverability. VASC electronically controls air suspension, allowing independent leveling and onboard axle weight displays. Traction assists such as tag axle lifting and “starting traction” increase grip in adverse conditions.
Cabin, Ergonomics, and Digital Systems
The 35.580 is offered with MAN’s largest GX, GM, and GN cabs. The TG3 (2020–) generation features the MAN SmartSelect rotary infotainment control, 12.3" digital instrument cluster, and steering-column gear selection. Ergonomic bunk with zoned cold-foam mattress, up to 355L storage, and Climatronic air conditioning (optional electric parking cooler) optimize driver comfort for extended operations.
Operational Specialization and ADAS
Typical applications include timber/forestry (8x4-4 Tridem with log cranes), heavy crane mounting (PTO-driven hydraulic systems with remote integration), and heavy drawbar operations.
