Engine and Drivetrain Configurations

The Mercedes-Benz Actros 2553 is defined by a consistent 530 hp (390 kW, 2600 Nm) output across three generations. Early MP3 models (2010–2012) use the OM 502 LA 15.9L V8 with PLD unit pump injection and optional 16-speed manual or Telligent automated gearboxes. From the MP4 (2011–2018) onwards, the Actros 2553 is powered by the OM 471 12.8L inline-6, using X-Pulse high-pressure common rail injection and a single asymmetric turbocharger. The PowerShift 3 12-speed AMT is standard; latest Actros L variants add the G291-12 with extended gear ratios for efficiency and quiet cruising. Predominant axle configuration is 6x2, featuring a driven middle axle and a liftable trailing axle, with available hypoid rear axles and selectable final drive ratios (i=2.733 or i=2.846) for tailored performance. Rated GCW reaches up to 68,000 kg.

Cab Options and Driver Comfort

The Actros 2553 offers a modular 2.5 m-wide cab system: StreamSpace for balance, BigSpace with 1.99 m standing height, and GigaSpace with 2.13 m height and maximum width—a segment benchmark for space and stowage. Flat floor layouts dominate these cabs, providing comfort for long-distance missions. Onboard, later MP5 and L models feature the fully digital Multimedia Cockpit with customizable displays and central touchscreen. MirrorCam, standard on MP5/L, replaces side mirrors with aerodynamic cameras and HD displays, reducing blind spots and improving visibility in adverse weather.

Advanced Technology and Assistance Systems

Distinctive to recent Actros 2553 variants is integrated connectivity and predictive systems. Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) utilizes 3D mapping and GPS to optimize shifting and cruise speed for maximum fuel savings. MP5 generations introduce Active Brake Assist 5 with radar/camera pedestrian recognition and Active Drive Assist 2 for SAE Level 2 semi-automated driving. The Actros L with ProCabin extends aerodynamics and upgrades safety systems to ADA 3 and ABA 6, further refining driver support and operational efficiency.
