Mercedes-Benz Antos 1830 at Engeros Otepää

Engine and Drivetrain

The Mercedes-Benz Antos 1830 is powered by the OM 936, a 7.7L 6-cylinder engine delivering 220 kW (299 hp) at 2200 rpm and 1,200 Nm of torque between 1200–1600 rpm. This unit features X-Pulse common-rail injection and an adjustable exhaust camshaft on select variants, providing strong low-rev torque response critical for urban distribution. Standard across the model is the Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmission, most commonly paired as an 8-speed (G140-8) or 12-speed (G211-12) configuration. Integrated software features include a creep function for low-speed maneuvering and driver-selectable modes (economy/power) tailored to specific delivery scenarios.

Chassis, Suspension, and Cab Variants

The Antos 1830 is primarily configured as a 4x2 rigid chassis with a nominal GVW of 18,000 kg, yet certain versions are plated up to 19,000 or 20,000 kg. Suspension setups typically combine front leaf springs with a rear four-bellows air suspension, with full air suspension (air/air) available for body-sensitive applications. Wheelbases range widely, from 4,900 mm to over 6,500 mm, supporting extensive body customization. Cab options—all at 2.3 m width—include the short ClassicSpace S-Cab (1,700 mm), medium ClassicSpace M-Cab (2,000 mm), and flat-roof CompactSpace M-Cab. Engine tunnel heights of either 320 mm or 170 mm further tailor cabin ergonomics and access.

Specialist Variants and Body Integration

Unique to the Antos range are the factory-optimized Loader and Volumer variants. The Loader emphasizes minimum unladen weight through the use of lighter components, achieving benchmark payloads for applications like bulk or tanker work. The Volumer features a lowered frame (down to 846 mm) enabling a 3 m interior load height, ideal for high-volume logistics. All Antos chassis offer standardized mounting grids (50 mm spacing) and optimized cable routes, ensuring rapid, cost-efficient body installation and integration for diverse distribution requirements.

Technology and Safety

Antos 1830 models incorporate cab environments with driver-focused ergonomics, including an asymmetrical dashboard, multifunction steering wheel, and a 10.4 cm TFT cluster display. Safety equipment includes EBS, ABS, ASR, and ESP as standard with advanced ADAS options: Active Brake Assist 3/4 with pedestrian recognition, Sideguard Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist, and Proximity Control Assist (adaptive cruise with stop-and-go). Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) leverages GPS and topographic mapping to proactively manage gear selection and throttle input for measurable fuel savings on regional routes.
