Powertrain and Transmission

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3263 is driven exclusively by the OM473 six-cylinder inline diesel engine, delivering 460 kW (625 hp) and 3,000 Nm at just 1,100 rpm. Notable features include turbo-compounding for energy recovery and fuel savings under high load, plus the X-Pulse common-rail injection system with up to 2,700 bar at the injector, supporting multiple injection events per cycle. A three-stage decompression engine brake offers up to 475 kW braking force. Gear shifting is managed by the PowerShift 3 AMT, typically with 12 or 16 speeds, offering dedicated Power, Offroad, Manoeuvring, Rock-Free, and EcoRoll modes to optimize shifting, traction, and efficiency across construction scenarios.

Chassis, Axles, and Variants

The Arocs 3263 chassis is built from cold-formed, fine-grained steel with C-section cross-members for optimal torsional flex on rough terrain. Standard configuration is 8x4 with full steel parabolic suspension and planetary hub reduction axles. The platform offers both 744 mm narrow (off-road) and 834 mm wide (on-road) frame options. Loader and Grounder sub-models address payload maximization or extreme durability needs: Loader uses single wide-base drive tyres, while Grounder features 9 mm frame rails and heavy-duty spring/damper components. Steered double front axles (8x4/4) and AWD variants up to 8x8 are available for high-mobility applications.

Cabin and Digital Interface

Typical cabs for the 3263 include ClassicSpace or StreamSpace (2.3 m width), with staircase-style entry and layouts up to L-cab with bunk. Dash layout evolved from analogue dials to the Multimedia Cockpit with dual digital displays, supporting up to four external cameras and digital control of bodybuilder functions. The latest Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 integrates enhanced voice control, Live Traffic navigation, and Remote Truck App 3.0 for remote monitoring.

Advanced Safety and Assistance Systems

Recent 3263 models include options such as MirrorCam (camera-based mirrors), ABA 6 (radar/camera fusion with 270° field for emergency braking on vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists), Active Sideguard Assist with braking intervention, and Front Guard Assist for frontal blind spot warnings. Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) utilizes topographical data and GPS for proactive gear and speed management on mixed routes.
