Used Mercedes-Benz Axor 1829 Specifications Overview

Powertrain and Transmission

Mercedes-Benz Axor 1829 features the OM 906 LA inline-six diesel engine (6.4L, 102 x 130 mm bore/stroke, 3 valves per cylinder), outputting 210 kW (286 hp) at 2,200 rpm with 1,120 Nm torque from 1,200–1,600 rpm. Later variants utilize the OM 926 LA (7.2L, 106 x 136 mm) for extended durability and improved NOx control, maintaining similar power and torque. The unit-pump (PLD) injection system ensures reliability on low-quality fuels, making Axor highly suitable for global markets with inconsistent fuel supplies. BlueTec 5 SCR technology is standard, with minimized reliance on EGR, optimizing fuel economy and maintaining high combustion efficiency. Transmission options include the 9-speed G 131-9 manual with range change and crawler gear for construction, or Telligent AMT, providing clutchless shifting through electro-pneumatic control.

Chassis and Suspension Systems

The Axor 1829 platform combines a 2,300 mm-wide Atego cab with the robust Actros-derived E 500 TM high-strength steel frame. A continuous 50 mm hole matrix and full KTL coating provide fast body-mounting and enhanced corrosion protection. Suspension is application-specific: steel/steel leaf springs for tippers and construction, or steel/air (front parabolic springs, rear air bags with ECAS control) for distribution, enabling variable ride height and stability. HL6 hypoid axles are standard for road use, while construction versions use hub-reduction HL7 axles for improved ground clearance and axle longevity.

Cabin, Ergonomics, and Variants

The narrow cab design (2,295 mm exterior) is available as S-Cab (short), Extended S-Cab, or L-Cab (sleeper, low/high roof). Cab height varies based on chassis spec, with engine tunnel intrusion (170 mm/320 mm) affecting cross-cab access. The interior features a wraparound dashboard and Telligent Maintenance System. Suspension is 4-point, isolating the cab for ride comfort, although engine noise is more prominent than Actros models with higher seating. Bunks are standard on sleeper variants, but dimensions are compact, prioritizing payload efficiency.

Operational Highlights and Differentiation

Axor 1829 distinguishes itself by offering exceptional payload efficiency and ruggedness. Compared to Actros, it delivers lower kerb weight with heavy-duty axles and frame, making it a class leader for payload-critical regional and distribution applications. Its Actros-based frame provides structural superiority over the Atego at the same GVW, supporting off-road use, higher axle loads, and drawbar operations, while the PLD injection system enables reliable operation in demanding and remote environments.
