Low-Entry DirectVision Cab & Ergonomic Innovations

The Mercedes-Benz Econic 1830 is engineered around its signature low-entry “DirectVision” cab, providing a low floor requiring only two steps for entry, a completely flat interior floor, and panoramic glazing with a deep windscreen. The driver’s seat is positioned at eye-level with pedestrians for enhanced urban safety and direct visual contact. The fully glazed folding side door and through-cab access enable kerbside exit, optimizing crew safety and workflow. This configuration significantly reduces physical strain for crews performing frequent ingress/egress, while supporting effortless movement within the cab.

Powertrain Options & Chassis Configurations

The Econic 1830 is available in diesel (OM 936 LA, 7.7L I6, 220 kW/299 hp, 1200 Nm) and CNG (M 936 G, 7.7L, 222 kW/302 hp, 1200 Nm) variants, all with broad torque bands from 1200-1600 rpm. The eEconic, introduced in 2022, features dual electric motors (330 kW continuous, 400 kW peak) with 336 kWh battery capacity and 100–150 km effective range; DC charging up to 160 kW supports 20–80% charge in 75 minutes. All versions (4x2, 18t/19t GVW) incorporate full air suspension and a flat chassis optimized for modular body mounting, with wheelbases from 3450–5700 mm for diverse upfits.

Advanced Safety & Driver Assistance Systems

The Econic 1830 features all-round disc brakes, EBS, ABS, ASR, and full air suspension. Safety evolution includes successive generations of Active Brake Assist (ABA 3–6) with vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist detection, plus Sideguard Assist with radar-based blind spot monitoring. Optionally, up to four external cameras support 360° visibility. The Econic’s cab meets the highest Direct Vision Standard (DVS) ratings for urban safety.

Body-Building Versatility & Special Applications

A modular frame with a uniform hole pattern, low cab height, and rearward major component layout allows wide application flexibility—waste collection, fire/rescue, airport, and municipal roles. For complex applications, Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) provides factory modifications for wheelbase, axle configuration, and specialized body integration.
