Used Scania G340 Specifications Overview
Powertrain and Performance Variants
The Scania G340 is available in both diesel (DC09) and gas (OC09) configurations, with the 9.3L inline-5 engine providing 340 hp. Diesel units feature twin balance shafts for smoothness and Scania XPI common-rail injection, while gas variants utilize a spark-ignited Otto cycle with a 12.6:1 compression ratio and Bosch ECU. Diesel torque profiles offer broad power delivery, whereas the gas version supplies 1,600 Nm in a narrower band (1,100–1,400 rpm). Gas trucks exhibit reduced engine braking, necessitating a retarder, but benefit from PIEK noise certification.
Fuel Systems and Range
The G340 gas models support either CNG or LNG. CNG configurations typically employ 4x80L or 4x95L composite tanks per side, providing a 350–500 km range for urban duty. LNG options use double-walled, vacuum-insulated tanks (up to 1,100L combined), delivering up to 1,600 km for regional haulage. LNG boil-off is managed by an intelligent fuel system drawing from top or bottom of the tank as pressure dictates. Diesel versions are optimized for longer intervals, with flexible maintenance plans up to 90,000 km.
Transmission and Driveline
All current G340 models are fitted with the Opticruise GRS895/905 12-speed AMT. Gas engine TCU logic holds gears longer to maximize performance, while NTG units feature a layshaft brake for 0.4-second shift times. Scania’s R4100/R4100D hydraulic retarder (4,100 Nm) is commonly paired, offering disengagement capability for reduced parasitic losses.
Cab Design and Ergonomics
The NTG G-series cab design advances direct vision with lower dash and slim A-pillars, improving urban safety. Engine tunnel height is 325mm, maintaining low entry and sufficient engine cooling. Modular cabin storage, Highline roof for standing room, a widened lower bunk (up to 1,000mm), and customizable storage trays enhance driver comfort for multi-day operations.
