The Scania G490 is powered by the DC13 12.7L inline-six engine, delivering 490 hp at 1900 rpm and 2550 Nm of torque at 1000–1300 rpm. Euro 6 models feature a dual EGR+SCR system and Variable Geometry Turbocharger for optimized emissions and torque delivery at low rpm. The G490 utilizes Scania’s modular chassis, supporting a wide range of setups. Tractor unit configurations include 4x2, 6x2 with liftable tag axle, and 6x4 double-drive for demanding traction needs. Rigid chassis options encompass 6x2, 8x4 with tandem bogie for construction, and specialist 10x4*6 for high-capacity crane carrier roles. Axle loads and layout flexibility enable adaptation to diverse applications, while suspension is available as parabolic leaf springs or full electronically controlled air suspension, the latter providing superior ride quality and adjustable deck height.
Cabin Variants and Features
The G-Series cab is available in Short, Day, and Sleeper forms, with Normal or Highline roofs. Highline variants offer increased interior height (up to 3610 mm) and large bed options (up to 1000 mm wide), while Day and Short cabs prioritize accessibility and chassis length. NTG models (2016–present) feature slim A-pillars, advanced noise insulation, modular storage, modern climate systems, digital instrument displays, and improved cab suspension. Ergonomics and visibility are notably enhanced over earlier PRT models.
Advanced Technology
Key options include Active Prediction cruise control with GPS-based speed optimization, fleet management telematics (real-time tracking and driver scoring), Lane Departure Warning, AEB, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Safety is further enhanced by the EBS-equipped disc brake systems and Hill Hold assist. The G490 stands out for its blend of high power, modular adaptability, and a premium, driver-centric environment across multiple configurations.
