Used Scania G500 Specifications Overview

Powertrain and Engine Technology

The Scania G500 is powered by the DC13 155 12.7-litre inline-six engine, producing 500 hp and 2,550 Nm of torque from 1,000 rpm. This engine employs an SCR-only emissions technology, eliminating EGR for simplified maintenance and reduced weight. The SCR system enables optimized combustion efficiency, yielding up to 3–5% fuel savings compared to previous EGR-equipped generations. Fixed geometry turbochargers (FGT) are standard on many XT variants to prioritize durability under heavy-duty conditions.

Transmission and Driveline Options

Standard transmission is the 12+2 speed Opticruise AMT (GRS905/GRSO905), with selectable driving modes for standard, economy, and off-road use. The “Clutch on Demand” feature allows manual clutch control for low-speed maneuvering while retaining automatic operation. From 2020, the G33CM gearbox was introduced, reducing weight by 60 kg and offering a broader ratio spread with a “Super Crawler” gear and overdrive for low-RPM cruising. The G33CM also transitions to a full electro-pneumatic shift system, eliminating synchronizers for increased efficiency.

Chassis and Configuration Versatility

The modular chassis supports configurations including 4x2, 6x2 (pusher/tag), 6x4 (with load transfer), and 8x4 (tridem or dual-steer front). Suspension choices comprise full air (height adjustable), parabolic steel leaf, 2-bag and 4-bag systems. The integrated R4100D gearbox retarder delivers up to 4,100 Nm braking torque and includes a clutch to reduce drag when disengaged. Aluminum D-shaped fuel tanks (400 + 300L) and AdBlue tanks (47–105L) optimize range and weight distribution.

Cab Architecture and Ergonomics

Cab options include day (CG14/CG17) and sleeper (CG20) variants, with low, normal, and Highline roof selections. The NTG cab places the driver 65 mm forward and 20 mm outward compared to the previous PGR generation, improving vision and accessibility. Storage systems are modular, with rear-wall options for work gear in day cabs and configurable under-bunk storage in sleeper versions. An engine tunnel (325 mm) is present, and the ergonomic improvements prioritize operational efficiency for high-frequency entry/exit cycles.
