The Scania P410 is powered by the 13-litre DC13 inline-six engine, delivering 410 hp and, in its latest Euro 6 version, a peak torque of 2150 Nm available at 1000–1300 rpm. From 2013, the DC13 163 variant uses an SCR-only aftertreatment system, eliminating EGR complexity and optimizing fuel efficiency. All P410s are paired with Scania’s Opticruise automated manual transmission; common gearboxes are 12+2-speed GRS905R and GRSO926R, offering crawler ratios and performance modes like Standard, Power, and Off-road. The NTG era introduced G25 and G33 Opticruise gearboxes featuring reduced weight, wider ratio spread, and a lay shaft brake for faster shifts. Active Prediction, a GPS-based cruise system, further augments driveline efficiency.
Chassis, Axle, and Cab Configurations
The P410 supports a modular chassis with axle layouts from 4x2 tractors to 8x4 rigids, and up to 6x6 AWD for specialized applications. GVW ratings span 21,000 kg for 4x2 tractors to 50,000 kg in heavy-duty tipper or mining setups. Cab options include the Day Cab, Sleeper Cab (offered in several roof heights: Low, Normal, Highline), and CrewCab variant for up to eight occupants, tailored to application from regional delivery to emergency services.
P410 XT: Construction Specialist
The P410 XT is engineered for tough off-road and site conditions. Features include a reinforced steel bumper for improved approach angle, 40-tonne front towing pin, protective steel grilles over headlights, ribbed mirror housings, and XT-branded interiors with rubber mats and heavy-duty seats. These upgrades offer enhanced durability for construction or mining operations.
Operational Benefits and Specialization
The P410’s high, flat torque spread at low revs supports strong drivability under maximum loads. Opticruise’s predictive and multi-mode function tailors performance for haulage or rough terrain. The NTG cab increases safety and comfort with a relocated driver seat, slimmer A-pillars, advanced digital dash, and improved storage. EBS, ABS, Hill Hold, LDW, and optional AEB and blind spot monitoring distinguish higher-spec variants. The P410 combines high payload capacity, durability, and application-specific configuration, suiting demanding distribution, tipper, and specialist fleet tasks.
