Scania R410 at Engeros Otepää
Model Overview and Powertrain
The Scania R410 is engineered as the efficiency benchmark in the R-series, designed for optimal performance in 40–44-tonne GCW operations. Key to its appeal is the DC13 115 engine, a 12.74L inline-six producing 410 hp at 1900 rpm and 2150 Nm torque from 1000–1300 rpm. This engine leverages Scania XPI common-rail injection and features an SCR-only emissions strategy, eliminating the DPF for simplified maintenance and maximized uptime. The NGS-era also offers a gas variant (OC13 101) for CNG/LNG, rated at 410 hp and 2000 Nm, supporting fleet decarbonization with biomethane compatibility and highway ranges up to 1800 km (LNG).
Transmission and Driveline
Early PGR models use the GRS905 12+2 AMT, while the NGS adopts the advanced G33CM Opticruise 12+2 gearbox. The G33CM features a dry-sump, reduced oil splash, and semi-synchroniser design, making it lighter, more efficient, and quieter. It also provides a wide ratio spread with super-crawler and overdrive gears, enhanced reverse options, and improved low-RPM driving efficiency. Common axle layouts are 4x2 (mainland Europe) and 6x2 (UK, high-weight operations), with rigid 4x2 options available for distribution.
Cab Design and Comfort
The R410 is typically specified with the Highline cab (CR19/CR20), offering a flat floor, interior height up to 1910 mm, and 800–1000 mm wide main bunk. Modular layouts provide extensive storage, fridge, extendable table, and advanced infotainment. The NGS R-cab advances ergonomics with a modular dashboard, improved visibility, and noise insulation. Air or mixed suspension options further increase driver comfort and cargo adaptability.
Advanced Systems and Safety
The R410 integrates the latest predictive cruise (CCAP) with “Pulse & Glide” for fuel savings, adaptive modes, and real-time driving feedback (Driver Support). Standard ADAS suite includes AEB, ACC, LDW, and, in later NGS models, systems like BSIS and MOIS for enhanced vulnerability detection. Telematics capabilities (C400) and digital dashboard options round out the connected, digitally optimized platform.
