Engine and Powertrain

The Scania R470 (2010–2017) features either an 11.7L DC12 turbo-compound inline-six or a 12.7L DC13 engine, with outputs centered at 470 hp. Early DC12 variants utilized a unique exhaust turbo-compound system feeding recovered energy to the crankshaft, paired with HPI electronic injection. Later DC13 units introduced higher-pressure fuel systems and a broad power range. Both engines prioritized robust torque with notable fuel efficiency. Emissions compliance ranged from Euro 3 to Euro 5, with R470 superseded by more efficient 13L units in the “Next Generation” platform from 2016 onward.

Transmission and Driveline Options

The R470 was offered with a 12+2 speed GRS905 manual or first-generation Opticruise AMT, both known for durability and positive engagement. Next Generation models transitioned to constant-mesh G25 and G33 Opticruise gearboxes, delivering a 14-speed range, up to eight reverse gears, and weight reductions of up to 75 kg via all-aluminium housings. Rear axle options included single and hub reduction setups, supporting demanding applications and various axle ratios for optimized efficiency and high-GTW operations.

Cabin, Aerodynamics, and Technology

Available with Highline or Topline cabs, the R470 offered generous interior space—standing heights up to 2.07 m and a full-length slide-out lower bunk. The 2013 Streamline update enhanced aerodynamics with refined cab contours, a patented headlamp deflector lip, and a new sun visor. Cabin upgrades included ergonomic dashboards, richer materials, customizable digital displays, and integrated driver support systems. Options for ECAS air suspension, storage solutions, and advanced infotainment further differentiated configurations.
