Powertrain and Driveline
The Scania R560 is driven by a 16.4L V8 diesel engine from the DC16 family, delivering 560 hp (412 kW) at 1,900 rpm and a peak torque of 2,700 Nm between 1,000 and 1,400 rpm. This engine configuration ensures robust pulling power and high efficiency, particularly under heavy load. The R560 is typically equipped with Scania’s latest Opticruise AMT, featuring rapid gear engagement with the integrated lay-shaft brake and available with the GRS905R (12+2 speed with overdrive/crawler) for maximum tractive effort. Retarder and advanced engine brakes are standard. Emissions are managed by a SCR-only aftertreatment system, meeting Euro 6 regulations. Fuel tank capacities can be specified up to 1,500L (dual-tank setup), supporting extended long-haul operations.
Chassis, Axle Variants, and Suspension
Scania R560 offers a modular chassis with multiple factory axle configurations, commonly available as 4x2, 6x2/4 (tag or pusher lift), 6x4, and heavy-duty 8x4, with hub reduction available on driven axles for severe on/off-road use. Front axle load capacities up to 9 tonnes and rear tandem bogie loads to 26 tonnes, depending on spec. Full air suspension or parabolic/multi-leaf steel springs are selectable per application. Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS) on driven axles is standard, enabling height adjustment for optimal loading and trailer compatibility.
Cab Options and Interior Features
The R560 is available with multiple premium cab options, including the R-sleeper, Highline, and Topline variants. Interior headroom on Highline reaches 204 cm. The cab features fully adjustable air-suspended driver’s seat, rotatable passenger seat (option), double bunks (Topline), integrated fridge, and advanced climate control. The wrap-around dashboard and driver-centric controls enhance ergonomics, while storage modules above the windscreen and under the lower bunk are available for extended trips. Infotainment includes a 7” touchscreen (optional), Bluetooth connectivity, and up to four exterior camera inputs.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Driver support systems include EBS, ABS, ESP, advanced ACC with stop/start, AEB, LDW, and BSIS. The rigid cab structure is made from high-strength steel, integrating FUPS and rollover side curtain airbags (option). Multi-mode LED headlights, adaptive lighting, and Scania’s CitySafe suite—including VRU detection and MOIS—can be specified for urban operations. Smart Dash digital interface and factory remote diagnostics (OTA) are supported on latest models.
