Powertrain and Driveline

The Volvo FH 460 (2010–2024) combines a 13-litre inline-six diesel engine with a consistent 460 hp output across three generations: D13C (Euro 5, 2300 Nm at 1000–1400 rpm), D13K (Euro 6, 2300 Nm at 945 rpm), and the D13TC Turbo Compound (I-Save, 2600 Nm from 900 rpm). The latest D13TC engine utilizes a secondary turbine to recover exhaust energy, supporting downspeeding and optimal fuel economy. All variants are paired with the I-Shift automated manual transmission, offering features such as Dual Clutch (for uninterrupted gear changes), Crawler Gears (for GCW up to 325 tonnes), and predictive I-See cruise control. Driveline options include 4x2 and 6x2 tractor, up to 10x4 rigid configurations, with axle innovations like Tandem Axle Lift for reducing return-trip consumption.

Cab, Ergonomics, and Digitalization

Cab selections range from standard sleeper to Globetrotter XXL, featuring a 2012+ design with one cubic meter of additional space and improved direct visibility. The 2020 facelift introduced a fully digital 12" instrument display, optional 9" side touchscreen, and redesigned I-Shift selector. Driver-oriented amenities include I-Park Cool battery-powered climate system, dual refrigerators, factory-integrated microwave, and multiple USB-C outlets. Three interior trim levels are available post-2020, supporting extensive personalization.

Advanced Technologies and Safety

Core features include Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) with active lane-keeping, stability assist, and tire blowout mitigation. Active safety systems: Collision Warning with Emergency Brake, Lane Keeping Support, Driver Alert Support, passenger-side corner camera, and a Camera Monitor System (FH Aero) replacing door mirrors. The I-Save ecosystem integrates D13TC, I-See, I-Shift (long-haul software), and energy-saving ancillaries for holistic efficiency. The 2024 FH Aero introduces a 24 cm extended cab for drag reduction, new drag-free brake discs, and advanced infotainment. Euro NCAP awarded the 2025 FH Aero a 5-star safety rating.
