Engine Specifications

Volvo FH 540 is equipped with a 12.8L inline-six diesel engine delivering 540 hp and 2600 Nm of torque. Early models (2010–2012) use the D13C540 engine (Euro 5), later ones feature the D13K540 (Euro 6) with Common Rail injection, rear-mounted OHC, low-friction pistons, and advanced engine braking (VEB+ up to 375 kW).

Euro 6 variants include integrated DOC, DPF, SCR with AdBlue, and ASC, reducing NOx emissions by 80%. Fuel efficiency is supported by I-See, a GPS-based predictive cruise control system.

Transmission Options

All FH 540 units use Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, with options like Dual Clutch for seamless power or crawler gears for low-speed maneuvering under high loads (up to 325 tonnes GCW).

Cab and Interior Features

Cabs are typically Globetrotter XL or XXL, with interior height up to 220 cm and bunk dimensions up to 213 x 106.5 cm. Features include air suspension, climate system with I-Park Cool, ergonomic seating, and a digital dashboard with a 9” central display.

Axle Configurations and Suspension

Common axle configurations include 6x2 and 6x4. Available setups support rear bogie loads up to 26 tonnes and front axles up to 10 tonnes, with liftable and steerable axles optional. Suspension options include full air, parabolic, or multi-leaf springs.

Safety and Driver Assistance Systems

Standard safety systems include EBS, SRS airbag, FUPS underrun protection, and ADAS features such as VADA, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Volvo Dynamic Steering. Up to eight external cameras can be integrated.
