Powertrain and Performance

The Volvo FH600 is defined by high-output, large-displacement engines designed for demanding applications. Early 2010–2013 units were equipped with the 16.1L D16G engine (Euro 5) producing 600 hp and 2800 Nm of peak torque, available from 1000–1500 rpm. Braking is enhanced with an optional VEB+ engine brake, rated to 425 kW. The 2024 update reintroduces the 600 hp rating using the new 17.3L D17A engine, now delivering 3000 Nm over 900–1400 rpm. The D17A features single VGT turbocharging, optimized aftertreatment, and is certified for HVO renewable fuels. All FH600 variants pair these engines with Volvo’s I-Shift AMT, with options including I-Shift Dual Clutch and ultra-low crawler gears for GCW up to 325t.

Chassis, Handling, and Cab Configurations

Standard configurations include sleeper, Globetrotter, Globetrotter XL (220 cm standing height), and market-specific Globetrotter XXL (extra rear space, 2.13m x 1.06m bed). The 2024 FH Aero introduces a 24 cm longer, aerodynamic cab with a Camera Monitor System replacing exterior mirrors, optimizing fuel efficiency and visibility. Volvo Dynamic Steering is available across the range, reducing steering effort and acting as a platform for active safety and lane-keeping.

Integrated Technology and Safety

Driver experience is augmented by a fully digital 12” instrument cluster (post-2020), optional 9” side display, predictive cruise (I-See), and I-Roll for fuel-optimized coasting. Safety systems include Lane Change Support radar, collision warning with emergency braking, Adaptive High Beam, and Passenger Corner Camera. The cab structure employs high-strength steel, exceeding stringent Swedish crash test standards. Passive and active safety features are complemented by ergonomic cab design and continuous upgrades in driver support systems.
