Powertrain and Driveline

The Volvo FH16 750 is powered by the 16.1L D16K in-line six-cylinder diesel engine, producing 750 hp and 3550 Nm of torque available from 1050 to 1400 rpm. Key engineering includes a rear-mounted timing gear, overhead camshaft, and, in Euro 6 variants, high-pressure common rail fuel injection. A reinforced I-Shift 12-speed automated manual transmission (variants like ATO3512) is standard, with application-specific software, including a Heavy-Duty Package and I-Shift with crawler gears for startability under 325 tonnes GCW. The D16K engine supports exhaust braking with VEB+ (up to 500 kW), and features cooled EGR with a comprehensive aftertreatment system (DOC, DPF, SCR, ASC, AdBlue, 7th injector).

Chassis, Suspension, and Axles

Chassis configurations include 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x2, and 8x4, with heavy haulage variants plated up to 150 tonnes GCW, and rear bogie load options up to 38 tonnes. Front axles handle loads up to 10 tonnes. Suspension choices comprise full air, parabolic, or mixed air/leaf setups. Tandem Axle Lift is available on 6x4/8x4 models, disengaging a rear drive axle for reduced wear and improved fuel efficiency when unladen. Later models feature enhanced steering angles on tag/pusher axles for improved maneuverability.

Cabin and Driver Environment

Cab options range from Sleeper to Globetrotter XL/XXL, with the Globetrotter XXL offering the industry’s longest and widest lower bunk. The 2020 update introduced a fully digital 12" instrument display and a 9" side touchscreen for navigation, infotainment, and camera views. Storage includes dual large under-bunk drawers (130L total) and multiple overhead lockers. The Living Pack adds options like TV preparation and an integrated refrigerator.

Technology and Safety

Standard and optional features include Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS), Adaptive High Beam (automatic LED segmentation), camera-based blind spot coverage, and a full Camera Monitor System (from 2024 Aero variant). Advanced driver aids comprise ACC with Stop & Go, Downhill Cruise Control, Road Sign Recognition, and Collision Warning with Emergency Brake. Special editions include unique paint, trim, and commemorative badging, further distinguishing the FH16 750 in the flagship segment.
