Used Volvo FL250 Specifications Overview

Engine and Driveline

The Volvo FL 250 (2010–2024) features two engine generations. Early models (up to 2013) use the 7.2L D7E inline-six (Euro 5), rated at 240 hp and 920 Nm. Post-facelift units employ Volvo’s in-house 7.7L D8K engine (Euro 6) delivering 250 hp at 2100 rpm and 950 Nm from 900–1700 rpm, offering strong low-end torque for urban stop-start cycles. Transmission options include the I-Sync 6-speed AMT (pre-2013), 8-speed torque-converter automatic 8AP1200 (post-2013), 6-speed Allison automatic, and ZF manual gearboxes. The 8-speed automatic supports multiple drive modes and enhanced shift smoothness tailored for city operation.

Chassis and Configuration

Most FL 250s are specified as 4x2 rigids, commonly with an 18-tonne GVW. Other variants include lighter 15- and 16-tonne versions and a 4x4 model with permanent all-wheel drive, raised chassis, high/low range transfer case, and increased ground clearance for off-road utility applications. Suspension setups typically use parabolic leaf springs at the front and rear air suspension, enabling chassis height adjustment. Standard axle capacities are approximately 7.1–7.5 tonnes (front) and 11.5 tonnes (rear).

Safety and Advanced Systems

Post-2013 FL 250 models integrate AEBS with Forward Collision Warning, LDWS, and EBS as standard or optional, reflecting an emphasis on urban safety. Auxiliary passenger door windows and multiple camera options further enhance direct and indirect vision, reducing urban blind spots.

Cabs and Ergonomics

Available cabs include Day, short sleeper “Comfort,” and Crew Cab (for up to seven occupants). Interior features include high-quality air-suspended Isringhausen seats, a pneumatically adjustable steering wheel, low cab noise levels, and multiple storage solutions. Interior heights and bunk dimensions vary by cab, with the Day Cab offering 1605 mm headroom and Comfort Cabs providing optional fold-down bunks.
