The Volvo FL612 is a 12-tonne GVW medium-duty rigid available from 1990–2006, positioned as a city distribution specialist. Early FL612 units feature the D6A inline-six 5.48L turbocharged/intercooled diesel, available in configurations delivering 180 hp/133 kW, 210 hp/155 kW, and 230 hp/170 kW. A unique D6A250 variant employs both turbocharger and mechanical supercharger, producing 250 hp/184 kW and 825 Nm; this twin-charging system enables superior low-end torque and rapid response, particularly for urban stop-start cycles. Post-2000 facelift models adopt the electronically controlled D6B, using Bosch EDC rotary pump and Volvo EMS management, matching the 250 hp/825 Nm peak without mechanical supercharging, and improving fuel efficiency and diagnostics.
