Used Volvo FM380 Specifications Overview

Powertrain and Performance

The Volvo FM 380 is available in two principal engine configurations based on production era. Euro 5 variants (2010–2013) utilize the 12.8L D13C380 engine, delivering 380 hp at 1400–1900 rpm and 1900 Nm at 1000–1400 rpm, coupled with EUI injection and rear-mounted PTO capability. From 2013, Euro 6 models switched to the 10.8L D11K380, producing the same 380 hp at 1700–1800 rpm and 1800 Nm at 950–1400 rpm, featuring Common Rail injection, “wave piston” design, and advanced EATS with uncooled EGR, seventh injector, DPF, SCR, and ASC for optimal after-treatment efficiency. The D11K’s weight advantage enables higher payload efficiency for regional and distribution operations.

Transmission and Driveline

All FM 380s are equipped with I-Shift AMT units—AT2412D for Euro 5 (2400 Nm input) and AT2612F for Euro 6 (2600 Nm input). These gearboxes support topography-aware shifting through the I-See system, offering predictive gear changes and Eco-Roll functionality via cloud-based gradient data. Driveline configurations include 4x2, 6x2 (tag/pusher axles), 6x4, and 8x4 Tridem. Selected models feature Tandem Axle Lift, allowing a 6x4 to operate as a 4x2 when unladen, reducing fuel use and tire wear.

Chassis and Suspension

The FM 380’s modular chassis offers multiple ride heights, including X-Low for high-volume transport with nearly 3m internal height. VBI-matrix drilled rails facilitate rapid superstructure mounting. Suspension options span air, parabolic, or multi-leaf, with rear pneumatic systems for precise height control. Axle loadings and configurations support a wide operational spectrum, including options for steerable or liftable axles.

Cab Architecture and Digital Systems

Cab variants include Day (L1EH1), Sleeper (L2H1), and Globetrotter (L2H2), with the 2020–2025 Next Gen FM offering one cubic meter more interior volume, straightened A-pillars, and expanded glazed area for improved visibility. A fully digital 12" driver display replaces analog clusters; a secondary 9" touchscreen manages media, navigation, and up to eight camera feeds with automatic passenger-corner camera activation. Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) is available, providing minimal-effort steering, directional stability, and kickback cancellation.
