Powertrain and Performance

The Volvo FM410 is powered exclusively by the 10.8L D11 inline-six engine, optimized for high payload efficiency. Across Euro 5 and Euro 6 generations, the D11 delivers approximately 410 hp (variant outputs from 411–419 hp) and 1950–2050 Nm of torque, with peak torque available from 950–1400 rpm. The choice of the lighter D11 engine—over the heavier D13—yields a kerb weight saving of around 156 kg, directly increasing payload capacity. Every FM410 is equipped with Volvo's I-Shift 12-speed AMT as standard, with options for Dual Clutch seamless shifting or ultra-low crawler gears for demanding vocational work and starting loads up to 325 tonnes GCW. The VEB engine brake, closed crankcase ventilation, and rear-mounted ancillaries further maximize operational uptime and efficiency.

Chassis, Axle, and Suspension Variants

Designed for maximum configurability, FM410 chassis options include tractor (4x2, 6x2, 6x4) and rigid layouts up to 10x4. Axle loads extend to heavy-duty applications, with liftable and steerable axles available. Bodybuilder-friendly frame design and factory chassis preparations streamline superstructure integration. Suspension options include all-steel leaf, full air suspension, and tandem axle lift for unladen fuel savings and tighter turning circles.

Cab and Digital Environment

Third-generation FM410 cabs feature up to 1 m³ more interior space than prior models, improved insulation (up to 2 dB quieter), and superior direct vision with larger windows and optimized door lines. Six cab variants are available, including Low Day/Sleeper, Globetrotter (201 cm standing height), and Crew Cab (for personnel transport). The fully digital 12" instrument display is configurable; a 9" touchscreen side display manages infotainment, navigation, and integrated camera systems. Ergonomic enhancements include neck-tilt steering and optimized storage solutions.

Advanced Technologies and Safety

FM410 models integrate VDS for active steering support, reduced driver fatigue, and stability features like Stability Assist and Lane Keeping. I-See predictive cruise leverages GPS and topography for up to 5% fuel savings. EBS with disc brakes underpins advanced safety functions including ACC with Stop & Go, Collision Warning with Emergency Brake, and Adaptive High Beam. Platform modularity accommodates diesel, LNG, and fully electric powertrains.
