Used Volvo FMX410 Specifications Overview

Powertrain and Transmission

The Volvo FMX410 is driven by the D11 engine series, with early models featuring the D11C410 and post-2013 units equipped with the D11K410. Both deliver 410 hp, with the D11K series integrating common rail injection and a "One-Box" exhaust after-treatment for compactness and efficiency. The 2022 D11K410 benefits from the patented “Wave Piston” design and low-friction liners, raising combustion efficiency and reducing soot production. I-Shift automated manual gearbox is standard across the range, with crawler gears available from 2016 for extreme low-speed control and enhanced startability under full load. The I-Shift Dual Clutch option provides seamless gear changes, maintaining constant traction on challenging gradients.

Chassis and Axle Configurations

The FMX410 offers extensive chassis versatility, supporting configurations from 4x2 up to 10x4. Notably, the Tridem bogie (three rear axles, two steerable) enables large 8x4 rigs to match the turning circle of much smaller trucks, crucial for tight urban or site deployment. Tandem Axle Lift technology further optimizes maneuverability and fuel efficiency, converting a 6x4 to 4x2 layout when unladen. Single front axles are rated for high loads, and Construction Air Suspension delivers minimum ground clearance and durability, with bellow and stabilizer placement above the axle for maximum protection and a load indicator to monitor axle weights.

Cabin and Driver Interface

The 2020 FMX generation introduced a new cab architecture with upright A-pillars, increasing internal space and visibility. The fully digital cluster presents up to four customizable views, complemented by a side display for infotainment and up to eight external camera feeds, including a dedicated blind-spot view. Ergonomic enhancements include a neck-tilt steering wheel and a dirt-resistant “Raven” interior finish.

Operational Specialization and Traction Systems

Automatic Traction Control is standard on AWD variants, engaging the front axle automatically for optimal off-road capability. Later models simplify diff-lock engagement with a central traction knob. The FMX410 is optimized for high-payload vocational roles, particularly as an 8x4 mixer or tipper, with a lightweight drivetrain supporting increased concrete volume per trip and efficient regional bulk transport.
