Used Renault D280 Specifications Overview
Engine and Powertrain
The Renault D280 is equipped with the DTI 8, a 7.7L inline-six diesel producing 280 hp, specifically tuned for torque delivery at low rpm to suit frequent stop-start urban distribution. Recent models utilize Wave Piston technology to optimize combustion and lower fuel consumption. The engine employs a high-pressure common rail system (up to 2,000 bar), multi-event injection, VGT turbocharging, and a cooled EGR loop. Euro VI aftertreatment is realized with integrated DOC, DPF (with a dedicated seventh injector for low-load regeneration), SCR, and ASC, enabling stable emissions performance even in urban stop-start conditions.
Chassis, Suspension, and Driveline
Available in 2.1m narrow or 2.3m wide cabs, the D280 supports GVWs from 10–26 tonnes. The modular high-tensile steel ladder frame offers pre-drilled rails for rapid body integration and reduced corrosion risk, with wheelbases from 3,250–6,800 mm. Suspension options include parabolic leaf springs and Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) with automatic leveling and manual ride-height control. The driveline supports 4x2, 6x2, and 4x4 configurations; rear axles range from single-reduction P11150 to heavy-duty P13170-E. Driveline ratios such as 3.36 and 4.50 accommodate both regional distribution and urban cycles, with engine and gearbox PTOs configured for bodybuilder applications.
Transmission Options
The D280 employs the 12-speed Optidriver AMT (AT 2412) as standard, capable of skip-shifting and rated well above engine torque for long-term durability. Municipal/urban variants utilize the ZF 8AP (Optishift) fully automatic, torque-converter transmission with lock-up clutch functionality for smooth low-speed operation and start-stop durability.
Cab Features and Safety Systems
Cab options include Day, Global, Night & Day, Sleeper, and Crew (up to seven seats). High-roof sleeper variants increase storage and standing room. The Vision Door (passenger-side lower glass) significantly improves indirect visibility in dense city environments. Braking features comprise full-air disc brakes, EBS, ABS, ASR, ESC, Drag Torque Control, and hill start aid. Radar and camera fusion systems (2023/2024) comply with GSR II, enhancing operational safety and urban maneuvering.
