Powertrain and Chassis Configuration

The MAN TGX 26.480 is built around a 12.4L D2676 inline-six engine rated at 480 hp (353 kW) and 2300 Nm torque delivered from 930–1400 rpm. This powertrain is designed for optimal long-haul performance with efficient torque delivery at low revs. The 6x2 configuration is typical, featuring a single driven rear axle and a liftable, non-driven axle to minimize tyre wear and adapt to changing payloads. Gross vehicle weight is rated at 26 tonnes (GVW), with standard Euro-compliant tractor units supporting combinations up to 44 tonnes GCW; specialist variants allow higher GCMs up to 70–90 tonnes. Transmission is handled by the MAN TipMatic AMT system, initially using ZF AS Tronic, with later models moving to the TraXon platform for faster shifts and features like SmartShifting and customizable driving modes.

Cab Variants and Interior Features

Early models were offered with XL, XLX, and XXL cabs, the latter providing up to 2150 mm interior height. In 2020, the new GN, GM, and GX cabs were introduced, with the GX delivering over 2.07 m standing height and in-cab storage above 1100 litres. All cabs prioritize ergonomic configurations, advanced sound insulation, multi-zone foam mattresses, and modular storage, targeting driver comfort and retention. Features include electronic parking brake, stairway-style entry, and a fully digital cockpit with dual 12.3" displays and the tactile MAN SmartSelect rotary controller for infotainment and navigation.

Efficiency and Technical Innovations

Efficiency systems include MAN EfficientCruise (GPS-based predictive cruise control) and EfficientRoll (automatic coasting in neutral), which optimize speed and reduce fuel consumption across undulating terrain. EfficientLine packages bundle aerodynamic kits, APM, low rolling resistance tyres, and software-limited top speeds for up to 6.35% fuel savings versus predecessors. Additional features include eight-bag rear air suspension and adaptive chassis options.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance

Later models come equipped with systems such as LGS, EBA, ACC, and, from 2020, advanced functions like Lane Return Assist, Turn Assist/Lane Change Support, and Traffic Jam Assist. Optional digital mirror replacement (MAN OptiView) reduces aerodynamic drag and further enhances safety for urban and highway applications.
