Used Scania S500 Specifications Overview

Engine and Powertrain Technology

The Scania S500 is powered by the DC13 12.7L inline-six engine, available in two major versions: the DC13 155 (2016–2021) with XPI high-pressure injection, FGT ball-bearing turbo, and a torque output of 2,550 Nm across 925–1,340 rpm, and the DC13 174 “Super” (2021–2025), featuring DOHC architecture, brake thermal efficiency up to 50%, and Twin SCR with dual AdBlue dosing. The “Super” engine delivers 2,650 Nm and enables cruising at 80 km/h below 900 rpm using the R756 single-reduction axle with fast final ratios down to 1.95:1. Both engines are certified for 100% HVO and, in most variants, FAME biodiesel operation.

Transmission and Driveline

All S500 “Super” models are equipped with the Scania Opticruise G33CM gearbox. This 12+2-speed automated manual unit features super-crawler and overdrive gears, delivers a ratio spread from 20.8:1 to 0.777:1, and is paired with variable oil volume spray lubrication, reducing internal transmission losses by 50%. The G33CM is 60 kg lighter than prior generations due to its all-aluminum casing and compact dimensions.

Cab Architecture and Aerodynamics

The S500 S-cab is notable for its flat, full-height interior floor—achieved by raising the cab and optimizing the cooling and suspension layout. The driver position is uniquely advanced (65 mm forward, 20 mm outward), with a wide field of vision supported by a low-profile dash, slim A-pillars, and up to a 7" infotainment system. Aerodynamic measures include adjustable air deflectors, integrated roof lighting, and streamlined exterior mirrors. These refinements yield up to 8% fuel savings over previous models when combined with the Super powertrain.

Configurations, Safety, and Driver Features

The S500 can be specified as 4x2, 6x2 with lift/tag/pusher axles, or 6x4 for heavy-duty applications. Modular chassis flexibility allows for custom placement of tanks, batteries, and ancillary modules. Driver assistance technologies include updated CCAP GPS-based cruise, BSW, VRU detection, LCCP with active steering intervention, and adaptive cruise with automatic stop/start. The interior offers a wide, extendable lower bunk (up to 1,000 mm), under-bed lockers, extensive overhead storage, and advanced climate options with auxiliary heating/cooling for off-engine comfort.
