MAN TGS 23.500 at Engeros Otepää

Powertrain and Driveline Specifications

The MAN TGS 23.500 features a D2676LF51 12.4L inline-six diesel engine producing 368 kW (500 PS) and 2,500 Nm of torque, sustained between 930–1,350 rpm for optimal load-pulling flexibility. Paired with MAN TipMatic® 12-speed AMT, based on the ZF TraXon platform, the system includes SmartShifting, Idle Speed Driving, and application-specific modes such as TipMatic® OFFROAD for rapid clutch engagement, higher rpm gear changes, and traction-focused logic. Select variants are available with MAN HydroDrive®, a switchable hydrostatic front-wheel drive adding up to 14,500 Nm to the front axle for temporary low-speed traction, yet approximately 400–750 kg lighter than conventional AWD setups.

Chassis, Axle Configurations, and Payload Optimization

A high-strength QStE500TM steel ladder frame supports the standard three-axle (6x2/4) configuration, combining a driven rear axle with a liftable, steered trailing axle for enhanced urban maneuverability and reduced tire wear. Other variants include 6x4, 6x6, and 8x8 for specialist off-road or heavy-duty applications, with hypoid axles for on-road and planetary hub reductions for extreme loads. Gross Vehicle Weight is rated at 23 tonnes; Gross Combination Mass can reach 70 tonnes (and up to 180 tonnes in heavy haulage setups).

Cabin and Driver Interface

Cab options include NN (compact day), TN (sleeper), and TM (high-roof with optional twin bunks), all at 2,240 mm width, emphasizing weight-saving and visibility. The 2020 “New Truck Generation” introduced a fully digital instrument cluster (12.3-inch display), customizable HMI, and the tactile MAN SmartSelect rotary controller, providing precise infotainment access without reliance on touchscreens. Spatial separation of controls and displays enhances ergonomics and minimizes distraction.

Efficiency, Safety, and Maintenance

Efficiency technologies include MAN EfficientCruise® (predictive GPS-assisted cruise) and EfficientRoll, which shifts the gearbox to neutral for low-resistance coasting, coordinated via the driveline control software. Driver assistance systems feature EBA, LGS/LRA, ESP, ACC, and AttentionGuard. Maintenance intervals for the D26 Euro 6d engine reach up to 140,000 km for oil changes and 850,000 km for DPF cleaning. Configurable service contracts and an adaptive maintenance interval calculator are available to further minimize operational downtime.
