Powertrain and Performance
The MAN TGS 35.480 is built around the 12.4L D2676 inline-six diesel engine, delivering 480 PS (353 kW) and up to 2,450 Nm torque in its latest NTG configuration. Progressive enhancements since 2016 include increased low-end torque and refined fuel efficiency strategies. Standard transmissions are MAN TipMatic® AMT, featuring SmartShifting for minimized torque interruption and a dedicated Offroad mode. A ZF 16-speed synchromesh manual remains available for specific severe-duty applications.
Chassis, Axle, and Suspension Options
Configured as 8x4 with two steered front axles and a driven rear bogie, the TGS 35.480 supports gross weights up to 35 tonnes (plated variants up to 37 tonnes depending on region and spec). Payload optimization is a core principle, with optional hypoid axles reducing unsprung mass by up to 280 kg and factory delete options (e.g., co-driver seat) for further weight savings. Suspension setups are configurable: parabolic steel springs throughout for maximum durability, or air suspension on the rear bogie for constant ride height and comfort. For on/off-road adaptability, optional HydroDrive® hydrostatic front axle drive offers selectable all-wheel traction without the weight and complexity of permanent AWD.
Cab Variants and Driver-Centric Features
Cab width is 2,240 mm, optimizing maneuverability in confined vocational environments. Three main cab types are available: NN (short day cab, max payload), TN (extended with single bunk for regional work), and TM (medium-high roof, two bunks, enhanced storage for multi-day operations). The NTG interior features a fully digital instrument cluster, high-res infotainment with MAN SmartSelect rotary controller (non-touch), and gear selector relocated to the steering column. Enhanced safety and digital options include MAN OptiView camera mirror system and over-the-air software updates via MAN Now.
