Engine and Powertrain Variants
The MAN TGX 26.540 is defined by its 540 PS output, delivered by two distinct engines across its evolution. Early Euro 5 units (c. 2010–2014) use the 12.4L D2676 inline-six, producing 2,500 Nm at 1,050–1,350 rpm with 1,800 bar common rail injection and MAN EVB engine brake. From Euro 6 onward, the D3876 15.2L inline-six became standard, offering 2,700 Nm across 900–1,380 rpm range. Key features include two-stage turbocharging and 2,500 bar third-gen common rail, enabling down-speeded cruising and increased durability via top-down cooling. The Turbo EVBec engine brake provides up to 600 kW of retardation.
Transmission and Driveline
Original models use a 12-speed MAN TipMatic based on ZF AS Tronic. From 2016, all units are fitted with the updated TipMatic built on the ZF TraXon platform, supporting SmartShifting, EfficientRoll coasting, idle speed driving, and quieter operation. Axle layouts are primarily 6x2 (mid-lift or tag), with the drive axle rated at 11,500 kg, steer axles up to 8,000 kg (9,000 kg HD optional), and lift axles at 7,100–7,500 kg.
Chassis, Suspension, and Cab Choices
The ladder-frame chassis uses high-tensile steel and is optimized for long-haul applications. Front suspension is typically parabolic leaf with hydraulic dampers; rear is most commonly ECAS air suspension (eight-bag on gen two models), providing adjustable ride height and enhanced comfort. Cab options include XL, XLX, XXL (pre-2020) and GN, GM, GX (post-2020); the GX high roof offers 2,070 mm standing height. Key interior updates from 2020 include the digital cockpit, MAN SmartSelect rotary controller, floor console removal, and MAN EasyControl programmable exterior buttons.
Efficiency and Safety Systems
Efficiency features include EfficientCruise predictive GPS-controlled cruise (with gear pre-selection on TraXon models), EfficientRoll, and model-specific aerodynamic packages (EfficientLine editions). Safety tech covers EBS, ESP, LGS/Lane Guard (with Active Lane Guard steering on gen three), EBA Plus (sensor fusion with pedestrian/cyclist recognition), and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go.
