Model Overview & Configuration
The MAN TGX 35.500 is a heavy-duty rigid truck designed for demanding applications, uniquely combining a 35-ton 8x4 chassis with the spacious long-haul TGX cab. Unlike the narrower, vocational TGS, the TGX 35.500 prioritizes both high payload and premium driver comfort, offering a cab width of 2.44 m and multiple high-roof sleeper variants (GN, GM, GX). This configuration targets sectors requiring robust construction capability, maximum crew accommodation, or extended on-site work such as heavy material transport and crane platforms.
Powertrain & Driveline
Standard models use the MAN D2676 12.4L six-cylinder diesel producing 500 hp (368 kW) and 2,500 Nm torque, optimized for low-speed pulling power. Post-2020 Euro 6e updates offer up to 520 hp and 2,650 Nm. The D26 engine features high-pressure Common Rail, turbo/intercooler, and 4-valve/cylinder layout. Transmission is MAN TipMatic, moving from ZF AS-Tronic (pre-2016) to ZF TraXon 12-speed (post-2016) with SmartShifting, idle cruise, and application-based shift modes. Hydraulic retarder and optional torque converter are available for extreme loads and heavy-duty braking.
Chassis & Axle Technology
The vehicle’s 8x4 rigid chassis utilizes front leaf and rear air suspension, with availability of full steel for severe-duty roles. Advanced axle layouts (Tridem, 8x4-4) often include liftable and steerable rearmost axles, enhancing maneuverability and reducing tire wear on partial loads. Power Take-Off (PTO) is standard for tipper and crane applications.
Cabin, Digital Systems & Safety
Post-2020, the TGX features a fully digital cockpit (12.3" displays), MAN SmartSelect controller, improved ergonomic controls, and configurable LED lighting. Bunk lengths reach 2,000 mm with up to 2,150 mm standing height in the GX cab. Efficiency and ADAS features include GPS-based EfficientCruise/EfficientRoll, ACC with Stop & Go, EBA, LDW, LRA, Turn Assist, and Lane Change Support. These systems actively optimize fuel use and reduce driver workload in complex operational environments.
