Used Scania P230 Specifications Overview

Engine and Driveline Options

Scania P230 is defined by its distinctive 9.3L five-cylinder (DC9/DC09 series) platform, delivering 230 hp in a segment typically dominated by 6- or 7-liter inline-sixes. Balance shafts ensure smooth operation, and peak torque is available at low revs, supporting Scania's "low-rev" operating logic. Early Euro 5/EEV variants utilize EGR alone, eliminating AdBlue for select models and maximizing payload, while Euro 6 variants combine EGR and SCR for precise exhaust management. From 2017, the P230 was supplemented or replaced in key applications by the lighter 6.7L DC07 inline-six, offering similar outputs and a 360 kg weight reduction. Transmission options evolved from 8-speed manuals (GR801, GRS875) to near-universal adoption of automated Opticruise AMT. The latest G25 gearbox uses an aluminum housing with variable oil flow and features a planetary reverse system supporting up to 8 reverse gears.

Chassis, Axles, and Modular Flexibility

P230 is based on Scania’s modular platform, sharing around 65% of its architecture with heavier R- and G-series trucks. Standard 4x2 rigid chassis enables technical GVWs between 18t and 19t, while 6x2 and 6x2*4 variants support up to 26t with rear-steer axles for urban maneuverability. Suspension setups combine parabolic leafs at the front with 2-bag or 4-bag air rear suspension. Single-reduction axles are standard, with hub-reduction available for high-GTW applications. The Modular Architecture Chassis (MACH) system introduces pre-punched frames and repositionable ancillary components, optimizing build and body integration without post-production drilling.

Cab Configurations and Ergonomics

P-series cabs are Scania’s lowest-profile option, suited for frequent entry/exit. Variants include CP14 (compact day), CP16 (day), CP17 (normal roof), CP19 (sleeper with multiple roof heights), and CP28/CP31 (CrewCab for up to eight seats). The Next Generation redesign introduced improved aerodynamics, lower dashboards, and the City Safe Window for enhanced urban visibility. The digital “Smart Dash” (post-2022) integrates ADAS information and digital climate control; auxiliary heaters are optional for extreme climates.

Safety and Connected Systems

Active systems span AEB, LDW, Blind Spot Monitoring, Side Guard Assist, and Lane Keep Assist with active steering (from 2022). Cabs with rollover side-curtain airbags and high-tensile steel construction exceed stringent Swedish standards. EBS disc brakes with Hill Hold and "Immediate Response" pad options are standard. Telematics include the Scania FMS and Driver Support, providing live metrics on driving technique, geofencing (Scania Zone), and digital fleet management integrations for operator efficiency.
