Used Scania P340 Specifications Overview
Engine and Powertrain Evolution
Scania P340 models (2010–2024) are defined by the integration of the P-series cab with a 340 hp (254 kW) engine, paired to either manual or automated transmissions. PGRT generation units (2010–2017) typically used the 11.7L inline-6 DC12 or 10.6L DC11 diesels (peak torque: 1600 Nm), with SCR-only aftertreatment in Euro 5, transitioning to the 9.3L DC09 inline-5 for Euro 6. NTG era (2017–2024) P340s are exclusively gas-powered, utilizing the DC09 9.0L inline-5 spark-ignition engine running on CNG/LNG (340 hp, 1600 Nm at 1100–1400 rpm, EGR). Gearbox options span robust 8- and 9-speed manuals to Opticruise AMTs. The latest G25/G33 Opticruise gearboxes (NTG) offer weight reduction, faster shifts, and lower friction, aided by lay shaft brakes for improved drivability.
Chassis, Axle, and Suspension Configurations
P340’s modular design supports a wide range of configurations. 4x2, 6x2 (tag or pusher), 6x4, and 8x4 layouts are routinely used for tractor, rigid, and heavy-duty tipper applications. Most regional and long-haul tractors employ 4x2 or 6x2 chassis with ECAS and P-Day or P-Sleeper cabs. Construction models are specified as 6x4 or 8x4, using full steel leaf spring suspension, often with differential and cross-locks for maximum off-road traction. GVW for rigid 4x2s is typically 18–19 t; 6x2 up to 26 t; 8x4 tipper variants are plated at 32 t; tractor GCW can reach 44 t.
Cab Variants and Driver Environment
P340s are available with P-short, P-Day, and P-sleeper cabs (low, normal, or Highline roof). PGRT cabs use analog dials and higher engine tunnels; NTG cabs adopt a digital instrument cluster, a configurable infotainment/navigation screen, and a lower engine tunnel (with 7L engines) for cross-cab movement. NTG cabs further improve visibility with slim A-pillars and an optional City Safe Window. Cab ergonomics, insulation, and fit/finish are substantially upgraded across model generations, targeting reduced driver fatigue on intensive routes.
